Tanya’s tour of Canberra
We love sharing stories about the different adventures our members go on throughout the year. In May this year, Tanya Fielding headed off on a solo road trip with her mountain and gravel bikes to Canberra. She shared some of her stories and highlights with us.
“There are so many places to ride with trails for every type of rider that I was spoilt for choice! I started off with a ride along the bike path around Lake Burley Griffin, before hitting the downhill trails at Stromlo Forest Park, a cruise along the trails through all the different trees at the National Arboretum and a scenic MTB ride on the Centenary trail along the Murrumbidgee.
Hearing about the freshly built trails at the Bodalla State Forest at Narooma and being only 2.5 hours away, I took the opportunity to head across and try them out. Sticking to the "playground" section, the green and blue trails I rode were super flowy and well maintained with no rocks (yay!). There was even a short trail with lots of wooden features which was great to practice on.
Overall the whole trip was amazing but if i had to choose, I think shuttles at Mt Stromlo and the riding beautiful trails at Narooma were were highlights of the trip. Other things to do: War Memorial, National Zoo and Aquarium, Walks around Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, Museums and Galleries, Parliament House, Mount Ainslie Lookout and more.
A Tip for other Gravity Girls: Allow plenty of time to explore as there are so many areas to ride in and around Canberra and if the opportunity arises, book shuttles for riding at Stromlo!”
